Key Stage 3

The skills students learn are based upon the National Curriculum where the focus is on developing the key concepts of:

Within these key concepts, students will develop the following skills:

A range of texts are covered, developing students’ social awareness and analysing the use of language, to show depth in their developing reading skills.

Media based units focus the functional uses of English. This supports awareness of advertising techniques and writing for a specific audience; further opening students’ awareness of career development through English.

Shakespeare is also covered and we look at a range of plays and poetry.

Key Stage 4

Students will be supported in their studies following the Examination Board criteria that they are following at their home school. Close liaison with schools allows us to keep students as up to date as possible with coursework and set texts.

We also offer Functional Skills English for students not sitting GCSE level examinations.

Key Stage 5

Students studying AS/A level English Literature and English Language will follow their own courses, dependent upon Examination Board and we liaise closely with Schools and Sixth Form Colleges to ensure that we are following any set texts, coursework criteria and specific modules.

Key Stage 5 students can also access Functional Skills English up to Level 2.
