Design & Technology
We can support pupils who study the various forms of Design Technology throughout their stay on Poplar Adolescent Unit.
Graphic Design
Pupils have access to the drawing materials and presentation items that they will need. They also have access to the internet and standard IT software for reseach and presentation purposes. Specific CAD/CAM programmes can be facilitated wherever possible by linking with the pupils' mainstream school and arranging visits for specific periods.
Food Technology
We have a fully equipped Kitchen in Education that we can use by negotiation with the hospital. We have our own equipment, and one afternoon a week, we have dedicated use of the kitchen for practical work. Theory work can be delivered and supported with the Key Teacher during weekly lesson time, using resources provided by the home school.
Resistant Materials
We are compromised with possessing heavy wood and metal working equipment on hospital premises. Wherever possible, we will support pupils to carry out practical coursework at their own school if cleared as medically fit to attend. Theory and design work can be completed on our premises with resources and guidance from the home schools.
Textiles Technology
We can fully support Textiles Technology to A level. We have our own sewing machines and a limited selection of yarns and fabrics for student use. They can of course provide their own resources. We have a range of drawing and presentation materials to assist with coursework and can support the work provided by the pupils' home schools.
