Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is a sum of money the school may receive for students who are either in receipt of free school meals, or have been eligible in the last six years. The school may also receive additional funding for any student who is in public care.

The reason for Pupil Premium funding is that, nationally, the statistics show that Pupil Premium students do less well than their peers in external examinations. The aim of this money is to reduce the gap in attainment.

At Poplar Adolescent Unit – Education Centre, requests are made for students who are eligible for Pupil Premium by contacting their home school and outlining the request for funding and provide information and evidence of how the funding will be spent to increase the pupil’s attainment levels.

We are required to inform parents and publish how this money has been spent and report on the performance of Pupil Premium students compared to their peers.

How Pupil Premium is funded and spent

The amount of the school's allocation of pupil premium grant is £0.  The school requests the set allocation from the Young Person's Main School  at the end of each term (if necessary).

The school's main barrier for educational achievement is to ensure the Young Person receives the resources they need for their education and to allow them to work towards reintegration back into their home school.

As a Pupil Referral Unit, each individual young person's requirements differ from their peers and the pupil premium is spent as per the young persons needs.  The length of the young persons stay impacts on whether this money can be applied for and the school will only request this payment if the young person is a long term patient and the school requires the additional funding to provide the young person with the necessary resources.

2017/18 - we received £2338 Pupil Premium. These funds will be used for all entitled Young People to enhance their learning opportunities and objectives and support them throughout their stay at Poplar.
